@Gabz If you exported your Instagram archive, the macOS app for Micro.blog can import it to your microblog and preserve all the original dates, etc. Also, I'd like to add a filter to remove screenshots from the photos page too.

@manton The filter would be awesome! And i did exported a few but not all but it's okay. It'll be fun to pick and choose what to upload again. Also, it should be posible to add categories to photo posts correct. I was thinking I could create different categories for different "collections" of photos.

@Gabz There's an auto-filter for photo categories; when you post a new photo you should be presented with the option to assign that category. Make sure you create the filter first, using something like "photos" or "photography".

(per the categories announcement)

@simonwoods right ! This was my thought process here. Basically add categories and kinda create collections. Like black and white photos, street photography, landscapes , etc...

@Gabz I agree. There are already a few things that can be done with categories, and I think there will be even more as time passes; including, critically, ways to more easily use the categories.

(Edit to my last post: you're prompted when making the category, then the photo posts should be automatically added to the category. The post I linked to is better at explaining this.)

@Gabz The m.b import is an option for sure. I started a photo only blog when I deleted my account.

@Gabz @simonwoods You can use categories today for this, and then I think it will be ready when we expand the photos page. I want to make it a built-in feature with a couple more options instead of relying on JavaScript.

@Burk where are these hosted, Blot?

@Gabz yep, it’s a secondary blot.

@Burk Since I have decided to stick to a hosted Mb site, maybe I can reinvent the Blot one for just photos 🤔

@Gabz I imported to a second M.B blog and was able to selectively import to exclude certain photos. I used the "On This Day" feature on M.B for a throwback feature (love it!). I still have retained my Instagram account for viewing friends' photos but do not post there.

@Gabz funnily enough, I’ve actually been thinking of doing the opposite. I have Blot for my main site and am considering moving my photo site from Blot to Mb.

@kordumb that’s another alternative. But I think, I’m my case, it’d easier to maintain my main blog here and revamp Blot. Since all I’ve got to do is to my Dropbox folder and delete all the posts.

@Gabz yeah, I haven’t fully decided. I’ve made my photo process a bit convoluted because I was worried about space on a free Dropbox plan. I might go back to it and just worry about the space when I actually run out.

@Gabz you could use categories maybe? For my decent photos I categories them under Photography. Other stuff like screenshots and the like I put under Microblog so they don’t appear on my Photos page, which I’m using as my Instagram alternative.

@Gabz congrats on getting Instagram deleted by the way. I’ve been hovering over the delete button myself, but haven’t made the move. I want to build up my selection on micro.blog first and see where it goes.

@andynicolaides oh man! This was a 5mo long decision! Lol now I’m thinking if I want to do my photos on a separate blog or just all in one.

@andynicolaides what’s your process for posting your pictures? I notice the have a “permalink” you post with Sunlit?

@Gabz The permalink thing is just part of the way the theme I added, so any post that goes up has a permalink link, that goes to the page that was creted. This also applies to the photos I post. How I post them doens't matter for this, as far as I know. I generally only post them via the Sunlit app or the micro.blog iOS app.

Having two seperate blogs, for what I think can be achieved with just one seems a little unnnecesarry, but I'd love to know what the rationale is for looking at two seperate solutions for it.
