@rishabh Option 2 or 3 over option 1. I personally prefer to have full separation between micro-posts and full posts and let micro.blog pull in full posts, but that is a matter of what you want to manage. It’s easier to do it all in one place and not manage 2 things, totally a personal preference. Either way, your own domain is the key!😃

@pimoore @rishabh @burk I ❤️ Blot, that being said, I find Micro.blog with your own domain to be the ultimate package. I like how little friction there is using Micro.blog. Blot is simple and easy too but I find it less simple than Micro.blog, maybe I have used blot wrong in the past, but I wasn’t a fan of using Dropbox and adding and hosting images was (to me) kind of complicated. Option one, well, I use the service and lately I have been posting things in there that for whatever reason I don’t dare or am hesitant to post on my Micro.blog hosted blog….

@rishabh I left HEY World last year and went to Substack before ending up with Ghost. Happy. I love MB, least friction, based on open-source. I do use Blot.im too with a GIT client as a repo. Cool. Must less active there but I do maintain it. numericcitizen.io if you’re curious.

@frostedechoes Just want to disagree on your last point. David does a great job of logging everything that is going on with Blot and also what is in the pipeline blot.im/about/new…

Dropbox is no longer the only way to host the files (I think Google Drive was added along with Github something something). Seems he also wants to add OneDrive as well.

Blot is exceptional for longform writing. Where you edit your posts and want control within a bunch of text filea. Micro.blog is great for small posts and community.

@rishabh ps. interesting discussion going on here in the comments. I would add that your intentions for this blog also come into play here. I’ve found write.as to be great for writing longform in what feels like a minimal, private space. an example of use cases: write.as/matt, micro.baer.works

@kaa +1 to this point. My blog is on Blot and David is amazing. I’ve probably reached out well over ten times over the years and each time he’s been super quick to answer and on multiple occasions has even written some custom scripts for me when I wanted to implement something that I didn’t know how.

@humdrum @kaa +1 to David and Blot on responsiveness and willingness to going beyond he needs to for helping out. However, recently my wife moved her work website to Blot and ran into some issues. She contacted David but didn’t hear back. I hope he is doing ok and everything is fine at his end.

@frostedechoes Editing is stupid - unless you have MarsEdit hooked up. With Blot I open any text editor I want and off we go. The flow there worka much better for me. With Micro.blog its takes time refresh, takes time to load, all little elementa of friction. Sure you can get the job done, but I would say that it is not the forte of the app. The reason it has stuck with me (amongst many things) is how Micro.blog is hooked into something like Drafts. Type and fire post.

@pimoore @frostedechoes @kaa I think now you can even separate the two post types like @timapple has done on his blog. I’ve been pondering if I want to do the same.

@timapple @pratik How do you do the separating of blog post types? By making use of categories?

@timapple Thank you. I have read this a few times 😆. Am I understanding that you determine whether (filter) it is a micro post or blog post by whether the post has a title or not, then assign a category, which then puts the post into one of two categories?

@timapple I always forget about the filter system. I had visions that if I followed your route, I would be going back and categorizing many, many posts (or just shrugging my shoulders and just concentrating on going forward). Thank you.
