@timapple Today I’m using a messenger bag from Timbuk2. They offer a fair amount of customization. Bags are such a personal thing. This is my fourth bag in three years and possibly, for me, closest to the Goldilocks Zone. I used to use an oversized, heavy duty back pack and wanted to downsize and force myself to be more thoughtful about what I carried every day.

@timapple Main EDC bags are, in order of frequency of use: Tom Bihn Maker Bag, Custom leather satchel (made by a friend), and a Patagonia laptop daypack (swag my sister never used, so I adopted). Then there are the hiking bags…

@timapple is there something about the GR1 that feels lacking or makes you want to improve? A lot of great options out there, but the grass is always greener and the GR1 is a great bag.

@timapple I use a Waterfield Designs Bolt backpack. Waxed canvas. The lining is gold colored so you can actually find stuff in it. I kind of lust after the Peak Designs stuff too though.

@timapple I have a nearly decade old GR1—it’s been everywhere. A year or two (maybe three) back I went through the same thing. I wanted a shoulder bag. For work, laptop, and shooting photos that form factor is so much easier to work out of. I finally landed on the 10L Pilot from Wotancraft. It serves double duty as a work bag with a laptop and/or iPad or a great camera bag.

@timapple I have so many bags. I have a Peak Design Everyday Backpack 30L but it doesn’t have enough pockets. So I use eBags Pro Weekender (Heathered Graphite).

@timapple Depending on the outing, I use a few different bags, which I keep pre-packed so I can grab them quickly. For meetings and conferences I use a Timbuk2 messenger bag (during the pandemic this hasn’t seen much use…) For solo work sessions I use a Topo Designs laptop backpack. For day hikes I use a small Fjallraven backpack. If I’m going shopping or to a farmer’s market I use a large tote bag. (And if my husband is reading this, YES I need all those bags.)
