having some difficulty figuring out how to do basic stuff on here and having an even harder time trying to set up my new linkstack instance - part of the problem is that help resources assume a level of competency that i don’t have. and asking for help doesn’t tend to go well.
i was a programmer for USAF back in the 1990s. i don’t lack aptitude, just exposure, experience. i went from nerding out on usenet, irc, BBS to total disconnect for 15 yrs. when i finally got internet access again, everything cool had been abandoned, all my old internet friends were on facebook.

@manton thank you. i feel like it’s probably not ok to email you like, “hi idk how to do the computer” jk but seriously, i didn’t even know what my questions were, but from reading the other convos on this topic, i now know that it’s Markdown. i missed that somehow - never encountered it.
and i was thinking that since i’m starting from way behind anyway, it might be helpful if i write out meticulously detailed notes on what i learn so other beginners can benefit from it. it’s just that y’all highly proficient tend to skip over stuff “that just goes without saying” lol
