Appraising Star Trek: Voyager: david.ely.fm
@davextreme I'll be intersted to hear what you finally decide on for your viewing order. I'm not sure I could feel confident making those choices without one all the way through viewing of the show. I'd always worry that I missed something good!
@davextreme I published a Star Trek: Voyager guide in the form of a Google spreadsheet that is designed to be user-friendly. You can sort it according to Yes (Watch), Skip, or No (Don't Watch). You can also sort by IMDb rating character focus. Star Trek: Voyager – A Viewer's Guide.
@macgenie Ooh! This is wonderful. I agree with your assessment of the series in your post and am looking forward to revisiting it. Also my wife's never seen any of it so that'll be neat.
@davextreme I originally had The 37s marked No. But then I bought this illustration from Lee Sargent, whose doing a #startrek365 project, and I felt I needed to watch it again. I upgraded it to Skip. It's not that bad. (Now Threshold, on the other hand, is terrible.) 🖖
@macgenie Wow! This list will be very helpful when I get around to watching Voyager. It was one of the Star Trek series that I watched enough of regularly to feel like I knew it was good, but not regularly enough to know the whole show. DS9 is my favorite of the shows (and I expect it to stay that way) but I've always felt that Voyager is unjustly maligned. It's a good show, with some bad episodes (which could definitely be said for every Star Trek series!).
@macgenie Also! I'm excited about this Star Trek tagmoji! I guess I need to learn how to use tagmoji!
@DrOct I've always imagined a poker game, except where we play episode cards, and somehow the person whose favorite series is left with the most "bad" episodes loses. I think that person will be the TOS fan. But I think TNG and DS9 fans will be surprised how many bad episode cards are in their hands too. 🖖
@macgenie Ha! I love that idea. And agree with your assesment.
@davextreme I'll look forward to hearing your wife's reactions! I've watched it so many times, I have forgotten quite how it felt the first time. Maybe your wife has a blog??
@macgenie This is a cool table. Thanks!
The explanations are helpful, as well. Some of the episodes you like that I don't have explanations like "alternate realities are fun", and I immediately know "OK, that's why she likes this one."
— I don't mind alternate realities, but VOY just IMO overdid them. So many episodes are "interesting beginning — totally undone by reset button, no effect on even the character development of the main timeline".
