@manton This is great news. Nice work, Manton!
@manton can confirm: super big features. 👏🏻
@johnbrayton @simonwoods Thanks y'all!
@manton Nice features! These are well thought out. My Wordpress blog syndicates to Mastodon via a plugin, but I turned on crossposting for my Micro.blog and it went smooth as butter.
I have to think about the identity option some more. It's a great feature I just need to think of all the implications first. Thanks for adding these.
@bradenslen Thanks! It's good to take some time to think through identity on the web. I want my domain name to last for decades and evolve with new services, so that's where our focus is for Micro.blog and the IndieWeb.
@manton Interesting - already starting to try these features out.
@manton Sounds great. I’ve been thinking about looking at Mastodon.
I ran into an issue. I clicked on ActivityPub from my hosted account but it says I can’t use it until SSL is set up. How is SSL set up on my hosted blog?
Also, one more question. On your post it says:
In Micro.blog on the web, click Account → ActivityPub. You will be prompted to select a username.
Does that mean that I can get a Mastodon username from the ActivityPub page or do I have to go to Mastodon to set up an account?
Anyways, thanks for the new features. 👏👏👏
@manton This is aweome! Thanks a lot!
@manton congratulations, off to think about / turn on activity pub option
@manton Great job! This is incredible work and really sets Micro.blog apart as a place with a specific community feel but with the ability to really connect with the whole web.
@manton One quick thought, and I'm not even sure how this would get implemented, but it would be nice to be able to set the "privacy level" of ActivityPub posts. I don't mean for there to be private posts per se (I know public posting on micro.blog is by design) but on Mastodon you can set different levels of just how public you want stuff to be and I think it'd be nice to be able to set that for my posts going over that direction. So for example I always prefered to have my posts be "unlisted." It's not private per se, but they aren't going to show up in global timelines, but they're still there for anyone to see if they want (and if they follow me).
In my mind it's sort of like using a robots.txt file to tell search engines how you want your stuff to be indexed.
Of course I know almost nothing about how ActivityPub works so I'm not sure how you send those flags, and how they get respected (or not) on the other end but it would be nice to be able to set how I want my posts to be sent via ActivityPub. I'm not really suggesting a set of options for each post individually, though I wouldnt' be opposed to that either, but just a default option would be great.
@manton as always, your decisions are so incredibly thoughtful for the betterment of this platform. I’m proud to be part of this community
@manton awesome got my head round cross posting (obviously) but need to re read the other part sounds great though mastodon confuses me still ...
@smith Thank you! Glad you're here.
@manton Ah! Would be good to mention on micro.blog/account/m... that a paid hosted micro.blog account is required. It just says "No custom domains set" which made think I'm crazy as I do use micro.blog with a custom domain – but also with my own website, not hosted on micro.blog
@nighthawk Good point, thanks. I'll update that text.
