@manton @danielpunkass The tone of this episode was so different from the past few weeks! While I understand the importance of critiquing Apple when needed, it's nice to have it balanced with occasional positive praise. I enjoyed your discussion of what might come with an AI enhanced Siri that evolved into an almost celebratory reminiscing about late 90's whimsy in Apple hardware and interface design was great. I still think we get glimpses of that whimsy even in today's Apple. For example, some of the Apple Watch faces, most notably the Micky Mouse face. And the stickers feature of Photos is a nice bit of Apple Intelligence powered fun. Love that term, way better than Machine Learning! Other examples of fun and whimsy: Memoji!! The weather app with its moving, live weather elements is beautiful.
I would suggest that the Apple of 2024 has found a balance in their design. For example, the display of contact card widgets recent photos, messages, mail, etc - maybe not whimsical, a good example of an interface that has become more helpful, personal and inviting.
All that said, I think there's always more room for fun! Though it was somewhate made fun of at the time, I'm seeing some folks wishing for more of what we had in iOS before iOS 7. I'd love to see the generic Files app icon replaced with somethig closer to the Mac Finder icon.
Anyhoo, great episode.
