@Burk joe do you implemented the cross-posting from photos to your main micro.blog? Just a extra feed added or something special? Interested in your setup and what you use to post your photos
@renem Hey René! Right now I have just added the photo feed to my main feed list so it pulls it in as if it were hosted anywhere. I may change that up in the future, but that was the fastest way to get it up and running. As for posting, I don't have a dedicated system yet, so I am using a combination of different iOS apps for editing and posting via micro.blog app or the web. Currently the micro.blog app crops to square so I use MarsEdit (or the web) to post if I want a different format. It's all still kind of up in the air, but I will updated as I get further into it!
@ChrisReed Thanks for the Workflow-workflow 🤨 however I’m not on Wordpress so I still search for a Hugo approach.
@ChrisReed Any chance you'll make that into a mini blog post I can link to? I love Workflow workflows :)
@rosemaryorchard Sure I can! What all would you want to see besides screenshots of the workflow?
@ChrisReed A tiny write up of what it does, and why you use it perhaps? Just a sentence or two. I'm badgering everyone I encounter to do that so I can find these workflows again when I inevitably need them :)
@rosemaryorchard I completely agree and I love finding new workflows too! I’ll try to do a write up on how I do WordPress images and posts with Workflow. I really hope Apple doesn’t make all my existing workflows break one of these days.
@ChrisReed @Burk @renem out of curiosity, have you tried using Sunlit for this? It's sort of built for what you're describing. Curious if you have tried it, in what ways does it fall short for you?
@cheesemaker I really like Sunlit. You guys did a great job! Honestly my biggest drawback is that it uses the WordPress galleries instead of just embedding images.
@ChrisReed that's fair actually. We did have some options to choose different WordPress publishing options but removed them before we released the app because it felt clunky. // @manton
@cheesemaker The weird thing is I usually like the gallery feature for images in my blog posts. But for some reason it feels in my Micro.blog photo posts I like embedding the images directly (or using a markdown link).
@ChrisReed @Burk @renem I have been using Sunlit for when I want to post multiple photos. Haven't used it yet for "One Shot", but it's on my list!
@cheesemaker @manton I know you didn’t ask, so I hope it doesn’t sound like I don’t love Sunlit—but these are some of the features I’d love to see in a photo blogging app:
Sorry for the long list. I guess I had more ideas than I thought once I started typing. Again I hope it doesn’t sound like I don’t like Sunlit, it’s really awesome already!
@Zak @cheesemaker We weren't sure about recreating the Micro.blog app timeline in Sunlit. Need to find a way to do more but still keep each app's focus.
@manton @Zak @cheesemaker I like the way "discover” is designed in Sunlit now. I just think it would be really cool if it updated automatically and had a stream of new photos posted to Micro.blog. Any maybe a way to have the same view for only people I follow as well.
@ChrisReed don’t apologize! This is great feedback. Believe it or not, but @Manton and I don’t always agree on features so having additional input is invaluable!
@cheesemaker Well I'm always happy to test and give feedback!
During the beta I was explaining Micro.blog to somebody and describing how I was using it to post photos. They wanted to see what photos other people were posting and the first place I went to show them was the discover section of Sunlit. It's the perfect place to find photo posts on Micro.blog. It really is great and you can really focus on the photo and not any surrounding text/posts.
