How I’m reading The Economist now:

  • Open the app on Saturday and go to the weekly view
  • Read Politics This Week, Business This Week, and KAL’s Cartoon
  • Open each article, send to Pocket if I want to read it, swipe to the next
  • Read them all in Pocket, highlighting as I like

@toddgrotenhuis Would you say they are pretty neutral/balanced politically? I enjoyed The Skim back in the day, but they got a little much and I had to drop them.

@marmanold I would put them in the "slightly classically liberal" direction. They are pretty establishment with a slight further lean towards markets and civil rights (we might call them very moderate libertarian in the USA).

The Media Bias Report puts them in the Most Reliable category, the Complex Analysis category, and in the Neutral or Balanced category, very slightly left-of-center.

@toddgrotenhuis this sounds like a very good “triage” approach to read the news. I wonder what other news publications it would work with? I’m guessing you have a paid subscription? Do you ever have paywall issues when sending to pocket?

@ChrisJWilson I do have a paid subscription, so have not run into issues with this. I'm not sure how Pocket handles this on the backend. Do they have access to the whole article to pull? Or am I sending all the article data to Pocket when I share to pocket?

It does seems like this could work for a lot of online publications.

@marmanold @toddgrotenhuis I’ve been reading The Economist for the past month and I’ve loved it. I plan to continue paying for it.
