Does Obsidian require an account? Either way, the people who make Craft declares the app will “bring the joy back into writing” whilst the people who make Obsidian are quite clear, with their apps being built around the database-driven model of “the second brain”.

@numericcitizen I mean, there are obviously a number of reasons as to how this situation has occurred. I just dislike the cultural development wherein so many app-based ideas are latching onto the ambition of being a platform and rejecting the virtues of a free trial entirely.

@simonwoods You don't need an account and you can use Obsidian for whatever you want: Second Brain, Zetllekasten, LYT, Task Manager, Project Manager, et all.

@simonwoods @paulopinto Yup, there is an account section (for supporters to get insider builds and I suspect for sync purposes) but you don't need one. Just couldn't remember if it asked you to sign up on startup or not (as it's been a while). I use mine with iCloud drive files.
