Family gift, we clubbed together to get our youngest daughter a MacBook Air M1 for all her school work. Looks like I also need to get a her a office subscription too 🤦🏻‍♂️ however what I’m more worried about is seeing how fast it is compared to my work 16” maxed out MBP 🥺

@adamprocter Since getting my m1 air I've come across more and more things listing issues so it's not all perfect…but it's far better than my old macbook (2013) that's for sure!

@ChrisJWilson is that mainly Rosetta software things do you think or just the fact Big Sur is still not great. I mean with I plug my MBP into my external displays it’s a nightmare takes 3-5 replugs to get it to recognise my 4K screen and even then arrangement will be mashed up again

@adamprocter So external displays is the big issue I've heard about. the M1s can only power one (or two, but one is a mirror of the laptop screen) and there are connection issues. There might be another issue (certain software?) but I tried to avoid hearing what's wrong or why it's not as powerful as a full decked out PC in one or two areas. The other issue I've heard is some docks are frying the logic board? It doesn't seem to always happen but I've read reports when power is running through certain third-party dock.

@ChrisJWilson cool. My daughter is not going to use a dock or external display. So thats cool. My MBP 16” intel hates my 32” 4K LG external display its a merry dance every time I plug them in - the other old school thunderbolt screen with adapter never an issue , never an issue with very old Cinema Display and dvi to hdmi adapter weirdness 🤷‍♂️
