@pratik @timapple I don't understand Mastodon and refuse to learn. Don't see the point of it.

@timapple @ridwan the syndication part seems easy but the visiting daily to respond to replies is what I don't want to do. I rather syndicate to the places where I can respond more regularly. For now, that's only Micro.blog. And I barely have time in the day to do that.

@timapple I am just starting to get my mind around how to make this work for me. i do think it will evolve for everyone over time and new integration tools will be created. I don't want to treat them like separate silos, when there is so much potential to interact in a new way.

@jean @timapple If we could see replies to all the networks we syndicate to in one place and can reply directly from that place and have the replies for those networks appear only on those networks, this may be worth it for me 😀 But that's maybe asking for too much.

@jlrevilla Oh it does? I may have to figure out more about Mastodon. I hope you mean once I syndicate to Mastodon, I don't have to go back to MAstodon to check for replies? But then wait, I still need to register my Mastodon username with Micro.blog, right? Won't each post appear twice on the MB timeline? @timapple

@pratik Jumping in. From my experience, those are two different things.

With your Micro.blog name, people can subscribe to your posts, from any Mastodon instance, and replies show up here. You can reply to those. You cannot, however, log in to an instance with that username. It’s perfect if you’d like people to be able to subscribe, and reply.

If you’d like the full Mastodon experience (I get the feeling you don’t), you’ll need to create an account somewhere, and crosspost to that account. You then have to visit a Mastodon app to reply.

I guess you’d be happy with the first option.

@maique Makes sense now and I just read Manton's note on ActivityPub update from last month. But can I follow Mastodon users in Micro.blog and how will I know they exist without being on Mastodon?

@pratik To follow them just go to discover and type in the name. Same way as you’d do with a user here. As far as knowing where they are, you’re on your own, I’m afraid. Same as if you were on Mastodon, I guess. You have to know their @username@instance.name

You can try finding @maique to test, no need to follow, as most posts come from M.b anyway.

@maique @pratik I've got a shortcut to redirect to the correct page to follow a Mastodon user on MB which I'm planning on posting later today to somewhat solve this issue.

@pratik Also, if/when you enable your name here, you'd have to let people know what it is, like an email, or phone number. I'd love to subscribe, but no one knows the name you picked... 🙂

@pratik @maique yeah, you can follow Mastodon users in Micro.blog, just search @username@instancename in the discover tab to follow. BUT, you have to know the username@instance. That's the trick! I don't think it's possible to login to mastodon via micro.blog. Not sure if that's a think that would be possible in the future.

@Denny @maique @jlrevilla I think that's what I'm looking for - to follow Mastodon users in Micro.blog and reply to their posts on Micro.blog. Dunno if they will see my replies though and if they do and respond, will I see it on Micro.blog? I think the answer is yes but want to confirm.

I found @cheri who I think now posts exclusively on Mastodon and was missing her posts.

@pratik I can confirm that this basic integration works really well. It just takes a little while until messages get from one end to the other maybe, but they definitely do.

@pratik Follows and replies seem to work well between micro blog and mastodon. You won't see private (follower-only) mastodon posts without a mastodon account, however, so you're seeing a subset of toots when you follow from the outside.

@Cheri I am following your 'writing exchange' one on M.b, and I saw a few posts today. But not sure if you will see those in Mastodon if I reply to them on M.b
