I really miss MoneyWell back when it could connect to my bank and everything worked. That was by far my favorite app. If anyone has a recommendation for a budgeting app with good envelope budgeting, I’m open to it.

@collin Yeah, I don't know how you could go wrong with YNAB. The apps are nice and they've got boatloads of resources available. I feel like it saved my butt a couple years ago.

@Mattfinlayson I have that also, but just wanted to see what else is out there :)

@kitt @collin I second the YNAB suggestion. Well, I don't actually budget myself, but my wife swears by it.

@collin I use Banktivity (iPhone version) but can’t say I’m excited about it. It’s a bit buggy, the bank sync fails on occasion, and the support guys take 2-3 weeks to respond. The bank sync might be bank or cross-border issue (I’m in Canada) and not theirs, so you might have better luck. It works well enough for me to do what I need, though.

@collin When I needed some budget revamping, I was using YNAB. The mobile app was good for recording things as I did them and it did a decent job of trying to auto-reconcile.

@collin I also recommend YNAB. You really need to get on board with their method as well as just using the app. I’ve been a user for about three years and our finances have never been better.

@collin What's "envelope budgeting"?

@Verso it’s the idea that a ridged budget that requires you to keep your spending within predefined limits will fail. Envelope budgeting fills each category with income, but easily allows moving from one category, (i.e: ‘clothing’) to add to another (‘entertainment’) on-the-fly.

@collin Well, I’m not alone. Please report back with what you find out. I need to do the same thing some day soon.

I miss Hoctor writing MoneyWell.

And to think I used to complain as much as I did...
