I quite enjoy using iA Writer, so I was intrigued by the announcement of their notebook for writers. 📙 Lay-flat binding? Check. Mesmerizing teaser video? Check. Vague raffle giveaway? Check. Marketing is on point. But how does the paper take fountain pen ink?

@cygnoir I really wish sometimes that notebooks came with pen test videos for fountain pens!

I would have never bought leuchtturms or moleskines if I knew how awful the paper is 😂

@cygnoir I thought of you when I first saw this email and was trying to find a mention of the paper type.

@Ddanielson @Sylvia I'm also usually using Tomoe River paper, but I'm not opposed to trying something else if it takes fountain pen ink well.

@writingslowly I can't tell if you're being facetious or not. 😂

@pratik No mention. I can't wait until @Brad gets his paws on one of these!

@cygnoir This is my question as well. I’d like to think the iA team would take this into account, but I could also see them using less FP friendly paper if they wanted to keep cost lower.

@cygnoir I’m on it! I’ve been testing the letterpress line scoring similar to this but with a different brand. It something I’m liking better than I thought so I’m anxious to test this one out.

@Brad I’m so eager to hear your thoughts. I have never tried scored-line paper. Wondering if it will be closer to college rule or wide rule, since the spacing will also matter. But a wider rule could be fantastic for line-editing with a red pen!

@cygnoir I have tried a lot of paper and tomoe river wins every time. Though I have to say I'm quite partial to MD paper these days as well!

@cygnoir yes, it was a facetious comment, sorry. I just found it amusing that a digital writing brand would be using a paper notebook for marketing. Having said that, I was doing some Christmas shopping on the weekend discovered there seems to be quite a lot of fetishising of notebooks, planners, diaries, journals and pens. There are whole stores full of them. Actually, I appreciate this!

@writingslowly @cygnoir Yeah, I went down a rabbit hole just yesterday looking at all the different diaries and notepads (it started with this cottonbureau.com/p/XT9MRF/jour). There are so many, and all look fun. My problem is I buy them and keep using the one old plain journal that I have.
