The Apple journal app seems to be improving while Day One is becoming increasingly confusing. I’m curious to know everyone’s thoughts on these apps. Every few months I find Day One more difficult to use and justify the premium subscription.

@Munish I know Day One has a lot of bells and whistles, but I just use it to journal and add a photo or two. I haven’t looked at Apple’s Journal app in a while.

@Munish @josephaleo is there any simple migration path between Day One and Apple’s journal?

@Munish I just noticed that Apple Journal now supports multiple journals. Might start using this more now.

@josephaleo @BestofTimes @matthewlang I’m finding it a bit tricky to trust Apple. Will they ever stop showing their support on the App and have a break, like they did with the notes app? DayOne Premium has some great perks, like web access and working with IFTTT, so all my micro.blog posts get added to a journal. I’d really like to manage both, but I haven’t been able to find a good way to connect DayOne with the Apple Journal. Oh, and DayOne also lets you share journals, so you can collaborate with others.

@Munish I’ve gone back and forth on this a few times and ended up writing down why I was sticking with DayOne, though the Journal app has improved since then with the addition of the iPad app and exporting. I feel like I’m locked into DayOne at this point

@mroutley excellent piece. How are you getting with the new AI integration. Does it work for you ?

@Munish I have some thoughts. I’m glad they’re experimenting, even though it mostly doesn’t work for me

@mroutley I also feel locked in. My son turns four next week, and I’ve written in Day One every day of his life. I feel lock in from the amount of content & memories I now have in Day One, but also from the ease of inputting it all. Without Day One, I’m not sure I would’ve built this habit.

@timlockridge yeah, I’m conflicted. I’m not happy with the lock in, but DayOne is a legitimately great app that has helped me journal well
