I’m trying to decide where Micro.blog fits into my online life. 🤔

I really like the community here, but I’m struggling to engage with folks lately (not just here, but everywhere)—and that is partly because my social media use has gotten pretty fractured between personal and business posts.

One thing that I really loved about Micro.blog was automated sharing to other platforms. Type a message, and it gets shared wherever folks might follow you. But the more I think about it, the more I think this contributed to my disengagement across all platforms. It turned me into a broadcaster.

When you no longer have to visit other platforms to post there, you also miss out on conversations that others are starting. That’s on me, of course, and I’m sure Buffer and similar services would have the same effect on my “engagement,” for lack of a better word.

Anyways, I don’t know where I’m really going with this, but it’s just something that’s been on my mind lately. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@AngeloStavrow I’m in a similar boat. That is, trying to reevaluate what my social media life ought to look and what writing I should post where. But yes, I hate being a broadcaster-only. I love interacting with people on a platform but then you can’t do that everywhere so have to decide what platform you want to spend time on.

@pratik Yeah, definitely. In my case I’ve also got business/app focused accounts, but those I think are a bit easier to use as broadcast channels. 🤔

@AngeloStavrow True but I’m sure customers or users maybe expect responses to their replies to their mentions on your broadcast posts. Do you tend to keep your personal and business accounts distinct from each other? I mean, people who know you well might know about your personal accounts. Does it make you hesitate to post something on your personal account lest it affect your business or do you not care?

@pratik I’m generally pretty moderate on social media, business or not, because there are too many folks out there that need drama dogpiles in their lives.

To your other point, if someone @-mentions my business/app account on another platform, I’ll almost certainly reply.
