Finished reading: The Queen’s Gambit by Walter Tevis 📚

I don’t even play chess (maybe I should start) but I enjoyed this book. Might watch the Netflix series again now.

@Annie One of my favorite books I read this year. The chess tournaments were somehow exciting (?!), but it was Beth’s character and what she must endure in the story that really got me.

I’ve got a couple more books by Walter Tevis on my to-read pile.

@Annie I’m glad to hear this was a good read. I’ll check it out! This year, I’ve had pretty good luck going back to the books that great TV adaptations were based on: Lessons in Chemistry and Silo. Eventually, I might track down the book series that kicked off Slow Horses.

@robertbreen Yes! I was really impressed by how Tevis wrote the matches. When you can make chess tournaments exciting for someone who doesn't even play chess, that's some damn good writing.

@7robots I haven't watched Lessons in Chemistry - maybe I'll do that, then read it. I did read Silo and really enjoyed it (before watching the show). I like the back and forth of reading/watching (in whatever order). I'm thinking about reading the Slow Horses series too.

@Annie Generally, I tend to prefer the book over the movie or show. Lessons in Chemistry is a rare exception. I agree on the back and forth between reading and watching!
