Why is is so many people have a problem being empathic online? If you don't have something nice to say -

@ambivalena Because people think the anonymity and online nature means they can 1) get away with shit; and 2) it's somehow more distant and therefore there's not a person that gets hurt on the other end.

A lot of people are dicks. But there are also a lot of nice people too.

@Howard Yes I know, but it makes me so sad to see wonderful people being chased away from mastodon.

And you are right, fortunately there are a lot of wonderful people aswell. 💚

@ambivalena Oh no, I wouldn't have imagined people being chased away from Mstdn. I find my interactions with people on Mstdn nothing but positive and enjoyable, unlike the angst on the Bird Site.

I feel blessed being on my own server and I can pick the people I interact / federated with rather than joining somewhere with lots of people, some of the unsavoury.

@Howard I have the same experience as you, but unfortunately some people do.

@ambivalena I am convinced that this is not a Mastodon-specific issue but rather a broader challenge facing social media. People are weird. And it seems to have evolved into what we experience, see and read today.
