@vincode I just started playing around on the iPhone and Mac apps. So far it seems really solid - great job!

My one piece of ‘feedback’ is that I’m not a fan of the multi-pane source list (i.e. All/Recent) and then clicking on that to see the files and again to enter the file. I’d prefer to see the files listed under the section headers. On the Mac this is discoverable with multiple columns. On the iPhone much less so, more bouncing back and forth across the levels each on its own screen.

@stevesnider I'll think about what you said about the 3 panel layout. Honestly, the odds of me changing it are low. The 3 panel layout is kind of standard these days. See Notes for what I mean. I do appreciate the feedback though.

@vincode Great point on Notes.

I guess the difference, to me, is that Notes provides a disclosure arrow that indicates I can expand from the source into the folders, and then for each folder provides a count of the number of Notes in the folder, at which point it then slides over to the next column in the view.

Right now, to me at least, Zavala didn’t indicate as clearly that, say, the iCloud docs had synced because I didn’t see any indicator (count, carrot, etc) show up at that level of the nav hinting that I should click there to slide to the next column.

The iCloud syncing seems rock solid and extremely quick, by the way.

Hopefully that helps clarify my feedback.

@stevesnider got it. I’ll see what I can do about it in the 1.1 release.

@vincode also thank you greatly for open sourcing the project!

I am trying to learn Apple Development, and in fact my first attempt was to create outliner app with ObjC! github.com/ybbond/Ou...

Consider the project a failure tho 🤣 I am inspired by John's tweet too, proof is in GitHub's readme.

@vincode also, I am thinking about iOS shortcut, inspired by Carbonfin Outliner: - space in empty line to toggle indent - backspace in empty indented line to toggle outdent

@ybbond isn’t swiping for indent and outdent convenient enough?

@vincode honestly it is not. It requires my hand(s) to change position whenever I want to indent/outdent. It can be using space & backspace to toggle, or with soft keyboard extension (in the place that usually autocomplete words).

@ybbond right now backspace on an empty line deletes that row. I think that is the more common usage in outliner apps. It’s a shame that there is no tab key on the software keyboard. That’s what we really need here.

@ybbond I’ll give some thought to adding keyboard accessories. I’m not fond of them since they take up vertical space that I would rather have devoted to the outline itself.

@vincode thank you for saying that. I do respect Zavala's design goals, and I believe your decision is for the best
