@writingslowly I like your analog of the phonograph — And your point that companies are making it worse by having the technology present itself as human: It is an obfuscation I hope unwinds sooner rather than later before doing more damage. I keep thinking that Star Trek’s moniker of “Computer, do ‘xyz’ …” was a much more apt interface choice than what we’re dangerously toying with today.
@microadrian yes it’s interesting that Star Trek could get it right all those years ago.
I’m also reminded of the denouement in the movie Her, where the guy suddenly realises the AI was massively multitasking on what he thought was their uniquely intimate relationship. The let-down was immense.
