I withhold some posts in /categories/being-me/ from posting to the Micro.blog feed. This is my ‘spirituality’ blog/vlog and can instead be followed by RSS, or email.

I have a livestream this weekend. If anyone is interested please check here for the announcement.

@aeryn Hello! It seems like you too are using TinyTheme and, unlike me, have succeeded in controlling which categories are displayed on your Micro.blog feed but still available in your RSS or email (newsletter?). Do you have any tips to share regarding how you accomplished this? I would like to do something like this too.

@willtmonroe yeah if you go into your account, go to sources and remove the main feed and replace with the feed of your choice, including non Micro.blog feeds.

For me, only posts in my Moments category go to the feed.

I explain a little in this Help post

@willtmonroe and I still write posts as usual, which are published to the site, and available in RSS feeds, emails etc.

@aeryn thank you for sharing this! I can't believe that I overlooked it for so long.

This is also helpful in clarifying what I'm trying to do. I not only want to limit my Micro.blog timeline feed to a particular category (eg, "Blog"). I also want to impose the same limit on my site. I still want those posts on my site but not available on the site's main page.

I saw that the Tiny Theme developer has created an update to exclude posts by category. But this is not available yet.

@willtmonroe yes @Mtt has been doing lots of good stuff with it recently with the microhooks and I would definitely be interested in filtering the home page too. I think a quick workaround for you if you haven’t considered it already would be to use the custom home page plug in to remove all content from the home page and replace with whatever you want. Then you could link to category pages from there. ??

@aeryn Thank you again! I think I've found what I'm looking for in the new "microhooks" feature that @Mtt added. If I want to limit the posts displayed on my site to one category, the microhook called microhook-post-list.html seems to be the best one. However, I'm going to have to wait until this is integrated into the theme itself since I don't have the requisite Hugo background.

@willtmonroe I decided not to use that microhook because I don’t know Hugo at all

@aeryn yeah, it's more clear for me to simply say I have no Hugo background 🙂

@willtmonroe @aeryn I hope to have this feature available in the next major update. I pushed out an update a while back (the aforementioned GitHub link in this convo), but we had some bugs and I had to pull it.

The difficulty has been finding a one-size fits all solution. Some want to choose categories by exclusion (anything but these) while others want to do it by inclusion (only these).

There is a way to do it, I’ve just got to work out the kinks.

Having said that, I may write up an alternate (and more flexible) way to do it with microhooks this week. It’s one of the most requested modifications.

@Mtt I re-read the approach you're taking with micro hooks--allowing end-users to make modifications without damaging the theme--and it made me want to give it a shot. Thank you for your work on this theme and the refinements.
