On behalf of podcast and audio editors everywhere - please try to eliminate the phrase “I was gonna say…” when you start speaking after cross talk or being interrupted by someone else. Just say what you were going to say so we can cut around it all easier.

@iChris I had a professor who also suggested we eliminate the phrase "I think ...". We all know it is what you think since you are saying it.

@iChris out of interest, what's your usual ratio of recording time to episode time? A lot I listen to - esp if interviews of celebrities, possibly not to offend them by cutting - seem like 1:1 (as if there's not really much editing going on)

@warner Most of the shows I work on are tech conversation shows, and not story or narrative driven so they tend to be fairly 1:1 other than brain farts or technical issues in the recording. But as I get to know a show, I try to help trim any fat on behalf of the listeners. :)

@Alligator That's another great one to try and kick to the mental curb in speech.

@iChris cool that you edit for a Reddit co-founder.
That's interesting to know that 'active editing' [looking for a word when the editor makes major creative choices to rescult content] is relatively uncommon.
I think it's good that you're starting to do that once you've built trust with creators.

@warner I need to update my portfolio to reflect "not active" podcasts somehow - unfortunately Community x Capital is on semi-permanent hiatus. It's always fun to get a glimpse behind the curtain of that world though. :)
