I think of quoting in blogging as a social feature, in a good way.

As such today’s Tip on TIL regarding manual quoting, along with a few as of late, have been placed into the Social filter. You can find the feed for those posts, and other filters on the About page.

@SimonWoods ahhh so you have to use the symbol

on every line you want the quote to continue on. Do you also have to end prev line with 2 spaces?
Let's find out

@warner no it doesn't require that.

Now let's try it with just one symbol at top

line with symbol straight to return continuing without symbol now 2 spaces
final line

@warner conclusion:

using your tip on repeat ">" on each line is a surefire way to get a new line, but you can also do it with 2spaces&return as in Markdown

@warner Yep. It's good that both ways work, since it increases the chances of more people being able to use it. The editor also auto-fills the symbol in some cases (I haven't tested each posting interface yet).

This is one of the reasons why I support Manton's decision to stay away from rich text; that can be quite bulky and increase the opportunity for opaque errors, whilst simple text-based enhancements are often flexible with fewer opportunities of breaking the interface.
