I’m working on the show notes for an upcoming episode of More Movies Please! We talked about Terrence Malick’s, A Hidden Life. It’s been a couple weeks since I watched the film, but I still can’t get it out of my mind. Once again, Malick made a beautiful, important film. 🎥

@frostedechoes I bought it on iTunes because I wanted to have it. It also looks like it’s available for streaming on HBO (Max and otherwise). Unfortunately, I think that’s about it as far as streaming goes. It’s not as widely available as it should be.

@w4rner Your review is extensive and offers a lot of perspective. I appreciate the style you did it in and the conclusions you came to. Seems like I was maybe more taken with it than you were, but that’s probably the magic of a Malick film—they invite deep introspection and, more often than not, are pretty divisive.

@dandycat Glad you liked the stream-of-emoji review style: hope you'll enjoy future ones! Bear in mind I aim for a 2.5-median distribution on MY ratings, and given I watch better-than-average films the ratings can seem harsh! Except for Freddy Got Fingered.

@w4rner Well, sure. Special dispensation should always be given for the curiosity, nay, cinematic marvel, that is Freddy Got Fingered.

But thank you for the link to your post. It does clear up some curiosity I had about your ratings. I clearly tend to rate things higher than you do, on average, but I appreciate the thought you put into your own. It makes a lot more sense to me than the senseless “5 = good, 1 = meh” scale I sometimes see from others.

(And thank you for the follow!)

@dandycat This was like when I first came across my all-time fave critic (can you guess), and was like: "OMG how can he only rate Lord of the Rings 4*?!”
