Is the Android M.b client app @dialog dead/abandoned?

@czottmann I'm not sure about @dialog but, I would recommend trying out @gluon by @vincent on Android if you haven't already. It's a very nice app.

@joelhamill Thank you! Yes, that's what I'm using currently but it's having a few ideas about how the UI should work that I don't share. ;) Also, it sometimes feels somewhat slow to update, like the interface is waiting for some job working in the background and I find it irritating.

Otherwise it is quite polished, indeed.

@czottmann um, interesting. I haven't seen the slow update times. That might be because I don't really check mb on my phone. I tend to use it most from the web in chrome on either my Pixelbook or my PC. Hopefully the devs for Dialog can reply and give you a concrete answer.

@czottmann hey Carlo. I hear you about the Android version and something I’m going to address.

Whilst I didn’t announce anything yet, yesterday I started separating Gluon for Android from the iOS version (they share the same code) - which means I can purely concentrate on just Android and make it better. And also want to make it more in line with Android design language of course.

Gluon is, and will remain, “opinionated” though 😋

Suggestions are welcome!

@czottmann A quick jaunt to the Play Store shows that dialog hasn't been updated since checks glasses January 2019. I would assume it's probably dead/abandoned but, you might be surprised.

@vincent Thanks for your work, and your answer, both are appreciated! :) Nothing wrong with opinionated, apps that try to appeal to everyone might end up not appealing to anyone.

My main suggestion is that when I tap (or double-tap) one of the tab bar icons, the app should go to the main page of that section. Example: I go into "Mentions", and drill down into a conversation, I would expect another tap on "Mentions" to bring me back to the list of mentions (i.e., to "lift me" out of that convo).

Additionally, if I go into a convo in "Mentions", then head on over to "Timeline", and then return to "Mentions" by tap on its icon, I end up in the previously selected convo again. I'd expect to see the overview of that section, though.

Makes sense?

@joelhamill You're right! Hmm. I'm getting errors when I try to log on w/ a token — I tried to get a sense whether others have the same problem. Oh well.

@czottmann @vincent I second this suggestion. I had tried these micro interactions myself on Gluon, because they're so prevelant on other social apps.

@czottmann I should really start to proof-read my replies before hitting "Post". I apologize for the weird use of quotes, among other things. I can and should do better. (I blame the weather.)

@joelhamill Dialog still works for me just fine. But it's dark mode disappeared. This reply was written with it. I tried Gluon several times, but it quickly crashed each time. Go figure.

@Ron isn't it funny how sometimes software acts differently for different people?

@joelhamill Yes, funny, as in strange. I tried Gluon again. Installed it and enjoyed reading with it the first night. I didn't dare try posting with it. But the next time I tried it, it opened up with an all white screen. Sigh. Back to Dialog.
