I've been, albeit super slowly, moving away from Fastmail over the past few months. My main account is now, for some time, with HEY and I've been using the SMTP feature to send outward emails for my other domains and it works a treat — that was the missing thing for me, but that SMTP was provided by Fastma... vincentritter.com

@vincent oh no please don’t say nice things about HEY. I’ve joined and left that service so many times. It never quite sticks but I can’t help considering moving back almost weekly haha

@vincent can’t use “from:” with iCloud-based account, though…?

@numericcitizen iCloud? Dead for me. But you can send via iCloud by SMTP no problem — just needs some setting up (with an "app" password). Fastmail did that for me.

@numericcitizen ... following up on that, if memory serves me right... might not work for custom domains on iCloud — but then you can just switch anyway.

@vincent I think the thing for me is that I will never not use my [at]mac address, so all HEY replaces for me is gmail which is fine already as a secondary email service. I'm sure I'll sign up for HEY again before too long regardless though haha

@vincent Is there a particular reason that you’re leaving Fastmail?

@ravi don’t use it anymore. Only using the SMTP functionality right now, but slowly moving all of them.

@vincent I meant, did you not like the service or just prefer the way Hey works?

@ravi yeah, just prefer HEY because it looks nice and is fun. Fastmail is very drab, just like most other email clients. And also I have some good Workflows going so I can triage support and stuff. Little things like that.
