Thankful that we have blocking and muting on Micro.blog that works — although there are cracks (which I'm hoping will improve) — eg just plain not show the profile to the person being blocked. Just my own wishes really. No avenue of connection. Hard with RSS feeds and emails though 🤷♂️
@vincent Honestly, I didn't even know we had blocking and muting features on M.b. I feel like sometimes I'm second guessing myself before posting anything on the Internet. I hear you!
@ridwan That's the thing though, I am in the same boat, especially when such a post could invite debate... and you know certain people will just bring a flamethrower. So what's the point? Why should I open myself up for that? Humans are full of infinite traits. Sometimes I need to get something off my chest, but can't because I don't want potential debate. That's the thing about just blogging... you can just post — but once you invite comments and a social element to it, things get harder. Can I still be myself? Or is it another version of me?
@vincent I like that on Micro.blog I can withhold some posts from the feed. It feels safer for me so I can express myself knowing there is no opportunity for anyone to directly comment on some posts.
@vincent I think it seems counter intuitive to have RSS feeds function like a closed special social media system. Yeah within micro blog that is doable though probably.
@Silas Yeah, totally — just wanted to make the point that nothing is perfect if you truly try to block someone. Mostly they won't bother though.
@vincent I guess one could make you sign every account you make and everything you post with like your government ID or something. Then you could block someone everywhere lol. But that's some fd up stuff if that was a thing.
@gr36 yeah, exactly! In general it’s been OK here, but I’m seeing more cracks now… There are options to stop certain posts from showing via the app, but it’s not perfect - considering it’s also a “feed reader” and you still kinda want people to see your posts (but not reply 😜).
@gr36 yes you can remove your main feed from posting to the timeline and instead have a category feed post to it. That’s how I do it.
