@jarrod I was always a little uneasy about installing an extension that can monitor the web pages you’re viewing 👀 still pretty wild to see how many YouTubers were burned by this too!
@grubz I actually used it for a few years, thought I was saving money, and even cashed in about $50 in rewards. Always wondered how they monetized. Now I know and it’s both unsurprising (capitalism, after all) and terrible.
@tylerknowsnothing I used it too, for quite a while when it first came out. I’m just so picky about the extensions I give a permanent spot on my browser lol I pretty much only use uBlock Origin, Proton VPN and Micro.blog’s bookmark extension full time these days.
@grubz @tylerknowsnothing I should have been more stingy, it seems. I was a bit suspicious too, but those “discounts” roped me in. I used to use RetailMeNot, but now I wonder if they were running similar scams. Probably best to avoid them altogether.
@jarrod I’ve used RetailMeNot in the past too. Most recently, Capital One is trying to get me to install their own version of this kind of thing every time I open the app lol I think I’ll just stay away from all of them.
@grubz Oh yeah! I need to use the Mb bookmark thingy, too! I use Safari, so I have a bookmarklet in my links bar and instead of bookmarking pages I just add them to tab groups. Lazy, I know.
@tylerknowsnothing that actually makes sense lol I like it because I use Linux on my laptop but I have an iPhone so it makes it easy to save stuff between my phone and laptop
@grubz You’ve got a point, there :) I hadn’t thought of that. Also, I too move stuff from my Macs to my Linux machines. For that I use LocalSend. It’s a fantastic open source AirDrop utility. Works great, if the UI is a tad wonky. Pretty easy to set up, though :D
@tylerknowsnothing wuuut I didn’t even know that was a thing! I’m checking it out right now
@grubz It occurred to me I should include a link :) localsend.org
