I read something mentioning Substack’s “network effect”. Is this really a thing? I assumed you just subscribed to a newsletter and that was it. Is there a centralised place subscribers go to and find other newsletters? Do newsletters point you to other newsletters?

@kjz newsletters can recommend like 5 others from their main page, and there are ways to tag other newsletters in the body and share other Substack posts that make it easy to follow. They also have a notes (microblogging) feature, which I haven't used but I think is prominent in their app?

@tracydurnell Ta. I wonder how much all these things are used. Sounds like it relies on authors recommending other newsletters themselves, rather than an algorithm?

I’d imagine Substack want people on the app.

@kjz Substack heavily pushes the app, but all their newsletters have RSS so I don't use it 😉

Yeah, I guess a mini blogroll kinda, but only for writers on the same platform?
