Me too!: 1/3 of NZers eliminate or cut down on eating meat - research:

survey of more than 1000 people: 31% … limiting meat intake over past year, further 3%: vegetarian or vegan.

Health … most common reason for cutting down, then concern for environment, animal welfare.

@tones I tried one of the substitutes — made of fungi, I think, and it was fine-ish. But, it came from the UK and cost 2x or 3x what it was replacing. So: food miles and cost are downsides. At least most of the meat in NZ is grown here.

@Miraz i don't mind a bit of fungi.

all our meat comes from the butcher, sourced around here. we eat fewer, nicer bits.

@tones I'm doing similarly. Woody's Farm just down the road grow heritage pigs and take care of the animals properly. The meat has texture and is tasty. A small amount is definitely sufficient. When I cook a meat recipe, I now use half or less the amount of meat specified and bulk up the vegies.

@tones No, not my thing… I'm fond of beef mince though, little bits of ham in a sandwich, quality sausages, stew.
