@martinfeld yep. we do have aussie parrots in the wild - rosellas but some lorikeets too, although you don't really see them outside the north of the north island. never seen a wild cockatoo though.
@tones I had no idea! Thanks for explaining that. 🙂 Sometimes we’ll go out to our balcony and find about five to 10 cockatoos sitting on the railing, just staring at us.
@martinfeld yeah i've been to melbourne a few times... i really noticed all the strange new (to me) brash birds and their calls. there were magpies in the parks and flocks of parrots outside the mcg. very cool.
@tones Awesome! I love Melbourne. You’re right about the bird calls here in Australia... I love how guttural and shrill everything is. Sounds like home!
@martinfeld melbourne is a great place. i have a favourite cousin there and of course it's the home of aussie rules which as we all know is the best damn ball sport on the planet.
@martinfeld When I was working/living in Queensland years ago, I got my first taste of a wild Cockatoo. I was walking through a supermarket car park and had a shrieking sound explosive detonate over me. It was a cockatoo doing its thing. Scared me half to death.
@yorrike Hahahaha that’s brilliant and so typical. They certainly don’t hold back! Still, it’s better than a magpie swooping on you.
