What odds would you put on Google failing in < 5 years?

They’ve killed everything interesting they’ve created (reader, wave, music, etc.). Search has become near-worthless. Prices keep jacking up. They’ve bled a lot of great talent.

Maybe an AI Hail Mary. What am I missing?

@toddgrotenhuis ...killing music? YouTube Music? Do I need to find a new music app? If I stick to Google not alphabet, then it's not impossible. Google search is TERRIBLE. YouTube and search ads still make a ton of money though (Although TikTok is final challenging YT's hegemony so I guess they're not invulnerable).

@ChrisJWilson no, I was referring to Google Play Music, which was killed for the much inferior YouTube Music.

@toddgrotenhuis Depends on your definition of "failing". Yahoo is still around, and I have a hard time seeing Gmail disappear. Who knows, maybe it will flail around for a few more years (decades) before surging again, like Microsoft or Apple… It is difficult to make predictions, especially about the future.

@miljko good point. I’m not thinking of “disappearing entirely” but not sure about an objective measure that we might use to evaluate

@toddgrotenhuis funnily enough I can’t really remember how Google play music all access (try saying that five times) was. To me, I classify it along side the 20 attempts Google has had at getting chat right.
