Are you accumulating notes or actually creating something?

Semyon Vengerov gathered two million filing cards but never finished his dictionaries. What lessons does this Russian scholar offer for modern personal knowledge management?

@writingslowly Excellent. A good view of the tension between “accomplishment” and the importance (always) “to enjoy the task, moment by moment.” Reminds me of Ruskin’s preface to Ethics of Dust. He said that the lectures were always in the “form of fragmentary answers” but that they would likely be “more interesting than the symmetries of a continuous treatise.” He also said — without promising :) — that he if they were found useful he might supplement it with illustrated notes. “But I have always found that the less we speak of our intentions, the more chance there is of our realizing them.”

Thanks for sharing this. Very helpful.
