Milky Way over the Lightstation. This image is a favourite from a visit this time last year to the Cape Otway Lightstation, on Victoria’s Great Ocean Road.

@desparoz Wow, this photo is impeccable. Nicely done! I love that it looks a little bit like the Milky Way is the beam of light shining out from the lighthouse.

@desparoz Question: Could you see the Milky Way with the naked eye or did you have to calculate your camera position and hope for the best?

@cjkonecnik Thanks so much. I hadn’t really noticed the effect of the milky way seeming to extend from the lighthouse’s beam.

@cjkonecnik Cape Otway is quite remote and there is very little light pollution. So the milky way was easily seen by naked eye.

@desparoz That's excellent. I'm fortunate enough to be able to discern the Milky Way looming above on a fairly regular basis, and I'm filled with absolute awe every time. I can only wish for more locations with so little light pollution.

@cjkonecnik Agree with your wish. I live in the city, so it is even more special when I can take in the universe!
