My apologies for the timeline bombardment. I finally fixed my Instagram โ†’ Micro.blog auto-crossposter and it caught up with my posts since December. I figured changing the publish dates to the past would move them back in the timeline too, but alas. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

@jarrod (And yes, I do feel gross about continuing to use Instagram, but at least I'm freeing my writing and photos from there by getting them onto my blog.)

Giving up the use of the Meta platforms is IMHO not as easy as it might seem at first glance.

From my experience, most users - apart from email - use almost exclusively Meta products like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram for their communication. And this is not likely to change.

With my decision not to use WhatsApp, I have cut myself off from part of the communication with friends and colleagues. If you don't use WhatsApp, you don't exist.

If you have your own business, this dependency becomes IMO even stronger. Giving up Instagram, especially if there's already an established presence, leads to reduced visibility and potentially to loss of revenue.

@thosch Itโ€™s true, itโ€™s not trivial or easy. But I think the gross feeling comes from my actions not marching my words. I have to decide if Iโ€™m okay with that and continuing to be outspoken against their behavior anyway, or bite the bullet and drop out (again)
