Give me a hand. I need a tablet for my daughter (7). Would you prefer an iPad 10 or Samsung Tab S9 FE? My problem is that the iPad 11 is probably coming in the fall! But her birthday is in July. I don’t know which is generally better for children in terms of parental controls and learning apps, etc.

@ner3y iPad all the way. She won’t need the latest gen. Should last her years. I have a 7 and a 5 year old with them.

@ner3y What’s your OS? I’d suggest you use the same for your child? Being on iOS myself I cannot judge the other, but I find Parental Control on my children’s devices to be well built, easy to set up, fine tuned etc. Their accounts set up as children to mine…

@thomasrost I have an iPhone, but not a single other Apple device. I still have an old Android smartphone and my wife has a new Android smartphone.

@ner3y I don't know about the Samsung, but in the land of iPad, it shouldn't make a difference. I'd just go for price and extra memory for just in case. I'm speaking as the son of an octogenarian who I set up on an iPad about 18 months ago. She uses it mainly for photos and solitaire and a little bit of Facebook, so can't say anything about learning apps. I can't imagine any learning app worth its salt wouldn't try to be backwards compatible for a decent amount of time, unless they don't care about public school customers.

@ner3y one more voice for the iPad here. But I find what @thomasrost said also important. Makes sense to use the same OS as on your device. Makes the admin task a lot easier. I also like the family setup on the iOS devices handy, as this means I can download (& buy apps for my daughter on my account) and then just redownload it on her device. And you don't necessarily need the newest device. I would rather go with one generation older (or two) and invest more in space – sometimes apps are big.

@V_ second that latest point. I am also working in a primary school with iPads in the classroom (and books!!!), my class is still on the cheapest iPads from 4 years ago… @ner3y
