@thedimpause Athos is the monastic heart of Orthodox Christianity, and many Orthodox men (and others) look forward to a pilgrimage there. I imagine an occasional widower might even become a monastic after losing his wife.

@thedimpause Mt Athos is more or less the spiritual center of the Orthodox Church. The whole peninsula is a monastic republic comprising about 20 monasteries.
