Maique’s indecision regarding which photo service to use both makes me feel better about my own uncertainty and has me thinking about it seriously again.

I’m unsure if I want to post photos in more than one place, and if I want to see them in more than one place. 🤔

Oh and @maique, a further complication (but in a good way) for a different aspect than you raised is Bokeh. I’m hoping this will very much scratch the Insta itch for me, since I don’t currently have any interest in getting an audience to look at my photos on a personal account.

@maique That makes perfect sense. For me, Instagram is to photos as Twitter is to words; the best broadcasting tool. Don’t get me wrong, I love RSS and all of the variety of apps and alternative services but that is a whole other world away from the average person.

From a personal POV, Bokeh is an opportunity for me just as Micro.blog was; a chance to define my digital self further away from the tech behemoths. This would definitely be much more difficult to do if I had a significant history with the big networks.

@rishabh You’re looking forward to Bokeh or you’re trying to figure out what to do with photos?

@simonwoods @maique Jumping in … I love the idea of Bokeh and have supported the project on Kickstarter. But I know I’m never going to get my friends and family invested in a(nother) - paid - app/service. They’re using Facebook and Instagram. I post to my own blog and crosspost photos from there so that they can see them. I’ve got my immediate family using Apple Shared Albums, but that’s almost entirely a one-sided me posting photos there and them looking at them. I despair and can’t see a way out.

@simonwoods I look forward to using Bokeh; I backed it up on Kickstarter a couple of years ago.

@TheDimPause The thing is that the last update came last September… I wonder if something is going wrong…

@TheDimPause Yeah I understand re: getting people to join another service. I’m lucky in that I don’t currently depend on any of the big platforms for any sort of contact or updates with friends and family.

My brief thought on this is that it is better to focus on being where the better options are, so that if at any point in the future the people we know decide to try abandoning the big ships we are ready to welcome them with open arms.

@rishabh Awesome. 👍

@numericcitizen Oh, Glass looks nice, thanks for the link! It looks like they’re using Twitter for some updates; even in the past few days they posted a particularly encouraging update.

@AndyNicolaides Oh that’s interesting. If I ever get into selling, it looks like a good option.
