One criticism about the app store’s policies I’ve never understood is the complaints regarding the 30% cut that Apple charges. This is akin to a tax or tariff. In other businesses, such costs are transferred to the consumer if the product is in demand. Price your app accordingly, no?

@pratik I like to say that 70% of something is more than 100% of nothing. Eg. I will not jump through hoops to install other marketplaces or pay you directly for every little app that I try. I'm more likely to pay or subscribe to something via the App Store.

But I kinda understand it with regard to eg. Spotify that also has to compete with Apple Music.

@teisam Yup. I prefer the App Store too. Re: Spotify, I think EU wouldn't give a damn if it was a non-EU company.

@pratik perhaps. But I still can see the troublesome implication that either you have to give Apple more than you earn from the subscribtion, or price it way higher than Apple since Apple does not need to pay Apple 30%.

There are probably apps in a similar situation in other parts of the world.
