Question for us to consider: How does it make you feel when a person is playing music for a group and someone says, “It’s not worth listening to if we don’t know what it means?” This refers to music with lyrics in other languages.

@changeling I think all music is appreciatable. I like when I can understand a song, but if I can't, I"ll enjoy the parts of it I like, even if that is the phonemes of the language I can't understand.

@changeling you know what that tells me, they are not broadening their horizons. maybe I am biased as I do know other languages but I do like listening to music I would not normally listen to.

@changeling My opinion is, you don't have to understand the words of a song to appreciate the music. I listen to plenty of songs in languages I don't know, and that's never been a problem for me.

@changeling That would hurt, considering I love music from other cultures even if I don't understand the lyrics. If the song has a good beat, agood song, makes me feel a thing, I don't care if I understand it or not. If I am curious about what it means Iw ill look up a lyrics translation.

@blindbat84 @changeling I am fully deaf, I can hear some music, but I can never understand the lyrics… So according to this logic, this means that I wouldn't have music at all lol like Sarah said Google is there if I want to look up the lyrics

This presumes at least one of us know what it’s about, though. I’d hate to be singing along in ignorance to something that would get me mobbed in its home country.

I think this person was just was thinking of audience accessibility since it appears to seriously clash with what I perceive their character reaction to be, but I was still wondering if my gyt reaction was normal. I just wanted to get others' opinions before I said what I felt to keep this an open convo.

@Changeling I, personally, have no use for lyrics. I wonder if this is more common among non-English speakers given the global reach of Anglophone music

@talvinrue To be completely transparent, the song that was being played didn't really that good and i think that seemed a softer way out to the person who said it. I think I'd feel more comfortable explaining about the melody and such on a personal level than on a group one, though.
