The batteries on my ear buds are starting to fail so I am pondering options. A) get replacements B) Buy new 2nd gen AirPods C) Get the beats ones as have ANR and transparency. I’m not in pos to get pros and heard they have tendency to fall out?! Any feedback would be nice.

@stickmandiaries I ditched my earbuds. I listen on speaker only, and seldom. I’m not a recorded-music lover, and podcasts sound fine over the iPhone speakers.

@renevanbelzen thx, I guess I should of clarified that I really only use them when I am out walking by myself or listening to something that others wouldn’t want to hear, which is most of my music or podcasts! :)

@stickmandiaries FWIW I have the Pros and mine don’t fall out. Sound quality of the pros is superior but whether it is worth the $ is subjective. The new beats are supposed to be good from what I’ve read.

@stickmandiaries I rather not get run over. I see people wearing earbuds in traffic and worry about their safety and about permanent loss of hearing (even at low volume). I know it’s a life choice, but I prefer to hear what’s around me without distractions. If I must, I hum a tune.

@ronguest thx Ron, yes I’m not able to run to £250 for replacements at mo. I have a friend who’s got them but had to get foam thingies to keep them in.. but says NC and clickyness is great

@renevanbelzen ahh yes, well I walk with one in on low vol and switch when batt runs out.. I could be one of those ppl sent holding phone out on full vol completely unselfconsciously..

@stickmandiaries I went from earbuds to airpods, and now back on earbuds. Airpod pros are good if you're ok with something filling your ear; the reason they won't fill out is because they're literally filling your ear, assuming they fit. They do have three sizes of the silicone tips and a clever feature for adjusting the fit.

I've missed both the fit and the noise-cancelling of the pros, though they didn't hold up well to heavy use. I'm not sure they're made for that -- no doubt Apple would suggest you spend an even more ridiculous amount of money on the Max headphones -- but with careful use I think they would last a decent amount of time.

I have tried Beats but don't like the fit at all. I think they're supposed to be the lower end (lol) version of the Max headphones.

@simonwoods ahhh thanks Simon. Having been fine with the wired ones for years, once you go wireless there’s no turning back really. I am now erring on just getting some more gen2s as I really like the sound and fit and there a known quantity. I use to get loads of time from the current ones but that has dropped to about an hours use. I will probably wait till I get to 45 mins before friction point causes me to act.

@renevanbelzen yes exactly! :) Just can’t understand the behaviour but I was brought up a different way I guess.

@stickmandiaries Yeah the wires were foremost in my mind when I first tried airpods and agree; now that I'm using wires whilst out and about it just feels like an annoying waste of time to wrangle with them. I'm also quite active at home for my main work -- which is probably how I over-used the pros tbh -- so I get even more benefit from the wireless in that scenario.

I reckon the 2nd generation are best bought now. I'd be surprised if Apple keep selling them for much longer.

@simonwoods Yes I think you might be right, although they are still selling iWatch 3 which I know others have said is criminal. SO maybe they’ll just keep flogging them till people stop buying them. I also love the fact I can, only just this morning put out the bins and not have to carry iPhone downstairs with me. Hmm yes I’m spoilt now!

@stickmandiaries AP Pros definitely stay in my ears. I can't wear the regular AirPods. They do get loose while running. I bought some rubber ear hooks that I put them in while running and they stay really snug.

I usually turn off noise cancellation when I'm outside.

Those + Watch are a magical experience if you run.

@JoeCotellese thx for that, for the mo AP are out of my budget, but have filed hooks for future reference.
