Considering buying some new photo gear … a bicycle. That would extend my current “radius of photography” from 5-7 km to 25-30km (at least). Now I need to decide if it’s worth the money.
@jemostrom Personally, I find that bikes are one of those purchases that add to your life in ways you don't initially plan for. I bought mine to commute to work; it's become a part of an identity, a physical reminder of my principles, a way to shop, a way to stay in (somewhat of a) shape, and also a way to get to work. If your local physical infrastructure is amenable, you may find the same.
@jemostrom A nice idea! What do you enjoy photographing most and what kinds of site (or subject) are you hoping to reach more efficiently with a bike?
@martinfeld I actually take photos of almost anything, but nature, landscape, martial arts, people and some architecture,are probably 95-99% of my photos. I live in a small village and since I've been walking most of the time I've been limited to a radius of 5-7 km which means mostly forest and some farm fields. With a bike it should be possible to reach a couple of large fields (size 5 km or so), at least one river valley, some type of forest that isn't common around my village, some typical old farm land, a couple of rapids, and biking to town (20km) is definitely possible. Perhaps even reaching the sea, although I think I would use our EV for that - it takes 35-45 minutes by car. But it would mean a huge increase my "photo options" (I hesitate to take car since it feels wasteful).
