This post is just a test to see if we can abuse the newly introduced 600 characters limit for quotes, without actually, you know, quoting anything. Maybe we can! As I write this, I don't know, and I have to keep typing to reach the 600-character limit. If you, dear reader, can read this post in its full glory on the Micro.blog timeline, it means I've succeeded. Let's celebrate that:

🎉🥳

You might wonder how this tiny trick is achieved? I'm glad you asked! There's this saying that a screenshot is worth more than a thousand words (or is it 600 characters?), so without further ado, here it comes:

Screenshot of Micro.blog's new post view, with the content of this very post in the text area. The text begins with an opening span element with the class attribute set to: less-than sign blockquote.

@sod That's one way to report a bug 😂

@sod Well played. If this becomes common I'll have to switch to a real HTML parser to check for the quote. 🙂

@sod I’m clearly missing something … we’ve always been able to add images with quotes that appear in the timeline?

@JohnPhilpin Forget about the screenshot for a while, the interesting thing with the post is in the text. Or rather, the length of the text. If you count the number of characters, you will end up at around 600 of them. That shouldn't be possible on the Micro.blog timeline, only posts containing quotes are allowed to be that long before being truncated.

But the post does not contain a quote. So how can it be that long and still show up in its entirety on the timeline? Thanks to a little HTML snippet, shown in the screenshot.

It's just a silly trick. Or bug. Or feature. 😊

@sod DOH … Thankyou. I hadn’t connected the image with the opening wordsof the post. Now I understand.

@JohnPhilpin @sod Technically, you can have a 600-word post in the timeline. Just put that text in a screenshot (the Twitter - Notes app hack).
