Server & Storage is rockin and rollin now! Very happy with the new setup. β€οΈππ
@Burk Congrats! May I ask what you decided for in place of the Ubiquity, or is that a OpSec secret? Iβm looking for a great WiFi 6 / AX router.
@odd I moved the large storage and assorted services off my iMac and have it running on a headless m1 mini now
@Burk Ok. I sold my Ubiquity router after the THN article about the dubious employee. Now using a get-it-with-the-ISP one, (and itβs bad). Eyeing an AX router, but still not sure.
@odd Finding a decent, secure, and privacy-focused consumer router is challenging. Want it to look good as well? Then it's a more or less impossible task. π
If you're not afraid of tinkering, an Asus router running Asuswrt-Merlin (custom, open-source firmware) strikes a good balance between performance and security. I'm happy with this model at home.
A more pro/high-end alternative is DrayTek. It's almost a decade since I last had a router by them, but I'm sure their current offerings are as well-built as the Vigor 2820 I used back then.
@sod Thank you for your reply! I have been looking at both of those today. Security/privacy and ease of use for a technical (but not networking professional) person is what Iβm looking for. When it comes to tinkering with networking, I come short of understanding everything but the basics. Will investigate more in light of your reply. Thanks again! π
