@fiona Agreed! I almost always find myself requesting the desktop site (where, unfortunately, the junk is obtrusive more often than not anymore) just so I can find the stuff I’m looking for, even though the desktop layout is a little more clumsy on mobile.

(Hmm, does iOS Safari support always requesting the desktop site for a given site?)

@smokey It's supposed to now, or at the very least support a new mode that is essentially "optimised for iPad" but I think it depends on each website. Whether Amazon are motivated to make their site work well on Apple's device is an entire discussion unto itself. @fiona

@simonwoods @fiona Yeah, I did find that feature…and it just reloads m.imdb.com 😠 The link at the bottom of the page to actually make the site switch to the desktop version must set some short-term cookie…

@smokey I mean, it isn't supposed to be a feature. "Request Desktop" was the old way, the new way is supposed to be it "just working" as it were. The sites are supposed to recognise the iPad and make the necessary adjustments to work properly.

At this point it appears to be a very clever idea from Apple with which they do not intend to find a way to genuinely make happen at a substantial level. Although we'll probably need to wait another year or two to judge that with any accuracy.
