TIL 1. All California residents are eligible for a Los Angeles Public Library card, and 2. All non-California residents can pay $50/yr for a Los Angeles Public Library card. Less expensive than a bookstore… 📚

@kitt But how do you get the books? Is there a nationwide Los Angeles Public Library bookmobile? Or do you have to take a trip to LA to get/return books, which doesn’t seem less expensive than a bookstore? :-)

@rosemaryorchard Oh, I didn’t think about those; when people say “book” my brain still defaults to the physical item….

@kitt I’m guessing you still need to live in the US to take advantage of the non-Californian rule? I’ve tried to get ebooks from my local library (because who has time to physically borrow and return books?), but their selection is so dismal 😭

@smokey I think they also provide Lynda access! Sadly I'll only be at Los Angeles airport for 3 hours or I'd try to register.

@vishae I don't know, actually. They have 180k ebooks available, which is the largest collection I've found so far. Amazon's Kindle subscription might be larger.
