@baldur I liked the author’s shout-out to htmlhelp.com there; it was my go-to back in the day, and I occasionally still refer back to it when I go to use more obscure elements.

I wonder, though—aren’t (many of, at least) those complaints about open source the same types of complaints we hear, particularly from those demographics underrepresented in tech/software development, about the whole field in general, and the occasional problematic company in particular? Just replace “maintainer” and “other contributors” with “manager” and “co-workers”? Am I missing something (via either being out of the OSS/software world these days, or privilege), or is it just because all of the bad behavior is more-or-less in the public eye in open source that this is a big deal, vs hidden inside a company until someone leaves and writes a scathing recap blog post?

@smokey Yeah, same. Like you, I'm not sure that the dysfunctions of open source aren't just a public symptom of the dysfunctions of software dev in general, just made more obvious by the transparency of FLOSS

I mean, odds are that somebody who doesn't properly set boundaries in their OSS work isn't setting boundaries in their normal job either.

@baldur That they’re only the public manifestations of the industry-wide problems still doesn’t help correct the perception problem, though :-(
