@fiona I wish there was better discovery for blogs in general. We need a directory or something!

@cheri Remember back when the first thing you did on a new blog after “Hello World!” was claim the blog on Technorati so that people could find it?

Have you seen what @bradenslen (and others) are doing around directories now? (I think the d-word is like the bat-signal for Brad ;-) )

@smokey directory-signal seen. What can I do for you Citizen? :-))

I miss Technorati and Bloglines, both were great discovry tools. I think it's time somebody with some skill and money to bring out a new Technorati.

In the meantime directories are a low tech, cheaper stop gap. Personal blogs are hard to categorize in a directory because they are about anything and everything and they tend to get lumped into one giant category which is not optimal for discovery. But every personal blog tends to have certain subjects (themes) that the blog owner keeps coming back to. You need to work the keywords that represent your themes into the directory description. It's hard for a directory editor to suss out themes and put those keywords in for you.

Um, you can find some of the New Wave Directories at Indieweb.org/directory

@vasta There is a lot of inertia to overcome. Everybody just says "Google it."

@kicks and @jenett and I have been talking about this for awhile. Here is my near term solution or at least one of my theories. The relatively inexpensive way is to bring back those old tools we abandoned, to surf the web. Higher tech solutions all require more skills and more resources

I will say this, having the Indieweb.org capabilities on your blog leads not only to "the Web as social network" but also to discovery.

@bradenslen @fiona, @smokey, @cheri, @vasta It might not have any impact, but I’m going to add a “Blog posts” category to my Mix profile.

@artkavanagh Good idea. Good plan. It is good to show others that there are independent bloggers out there with something to say and just because it's not published in an online magazine does not mean it's not worthwhile.

@bradenslen Thanks, Brad. Of course, I don’t claim that Mix is problem-free, far less ideal. For example, I tried to add your post on “Decentralized Search” to the collection and Mix threw up an error message

We couldn’t gather the information from this website,

I’ve no idea what information they were looking for!
