This article is not about AI as it states. It is about corporations and there is no new news about corporations revealed here in this article.
AI is not huge server farms that produce the products that corporations like OpenAI, Meta, Amazon, Alphabet (Google) use. The this may be the way most people interact with AI. It is not AI only a vehicle to use it. Though it does not have to be that way.
I use AI via Ollama, llama.cpp and ComfyUI on a daily basis. I also build LLMs of my own and train them. None of this effects your electric bill or cost of living at all. Using locally installed AI can be very effective for individuals. It is not something to be feared.
I am against the unregulated Corporations use of AI. That is not an AI issue, it is an issue with our corporations not being regulated. As long as we keep barking up the wrong tree as this article would have us believe, we will never address the real issue.
Stop with the anti-AI rants and start complaining about the lack of regulations on corporations.
AI has been with us since the 60's it is not new even if the way we implement it is radically different. Today's artificial neural networks are undoubtedly a great boon to our society. That does not mean that people cannot abuse this if there are no regulations on how corporations do business. If they us more electric they should have to pay for that electricity not the other consumers. They should not be allowed to use resources to the level that the deprive others of that resource. Though this is true in every aspect not just applicable to AI. AI today is just a trained neural network. Human Intelligence is not infallible and we should not expect Artificial Intelligence to be so either. Fire has burned down cities and also heated and cooked food for billions. It is not the resource that is the issue, it is how it is used.
@unusnemo on device AI is the future. As they program these to get smarter and to hook into more of our personal devices and not interact with cloud based AI systems, it’ll only get better. The apple ecosystem is a good example of this, and it still needs more improvements, but it is being improved on.
@rbreich just missing nividia in the picture. And Oracle. And Thiels stuff. Can’t wait to see them eat each other. Musk may do a big acquisition to keep him ponzi scheme alive. He may be interested in google. Not enough money? Will not hold him back. If he can get a billion to focus on Tesla, everything is possible.
