More shit like this and I guess Twitter will be my next one to quit.

@Gaby I’m on the fence about this one, everyone else is doing it, people are getting paid in a ton of platforms by now, it was only natural they would go for that.
@Gaby So, basically Patreon inside of Twitter.
@sku_b @maique @peterimoore i get it, they need to get with the times and business models. I guess this is me yelling “get the fuck off my lawn!!” 😅
@Gaby @peterimoore @maique I agree with Maique. If anything, Twitter should have been doing it first.
I'm curious as to why it's a bad thing? (note: I haven't read the article; although, I probably wouldn't take much from it anyway)
@simonwoods perhaps is the typical reaction to “something new and I don’t like it!” Lol, I should not be doing this anymore , I should know better
@simonwoods @gaby @maique I’m also deep in my curmudgeon stage of life, so that doesn’t help. I’m at the point where if Twitter really wants to monetize something, how about reimbursing _my time _ for reading all the crap on there. 😂
@Gaby TBH my first reaction was "what's the point?" I could see charging for articles, stories, etc. but for tweets? But I guess Twitter these days has videos and such embedded so maybe "influencers" will be able to make money off that…
@jayeless how many followers so you can call yourself an influencer ? I have 206, does that makes me one ? 😅
@Gaby Hahah well, you could always try charging for your tweets and see how many of those 206 followers will follow through with it? 😆 Realistically I have no idea!
@Gaby Honestly, give me a paid tier of Twitter which eliminates ads and tracking along with some advanced filtering features and I’m in.
@Gaby I figured this is their reaction to things like Substack’s paid email newsletters. Maybe a way to keep the journalists on Twitter?
@Gaby Mostly off Twitter these days, but I’ve long wanted a way to pay some creators I love on the platform. Maybe this would enable that?
@peterimoore @gaby Ha! Well it's not like Twitter hasn't earned cynical reactions to their feature releases. Don't get me wrong, I still have no reason to think this means things will get better and it definitely does nothing to motivate me to go back there, but if features like this help to chip away at the bad parts of Twitter then I'll be happy for those who are using the platform.
Also, for me if you take Micro.blog and add some timeline filtering you'll get @sku_b's idea. Only even better. (note: I'm not really interested in having a personal account where there are hundreds of millions of other people)
@simonwoods I feel like this feature will actually encourage much of the behavior that’s lead to Twitter being so terrible. Now you can be compensated for it.
@mdrockwell @simonwoods Agreed, it does nothing to prevent people from posting shitty content in the chase for revenue. And my guess is the number of people willing to pay for this will be scarce at best, even if there’s good content behind the paywall.
@peterimoore I don’t know. I get the feeling there are a lot of toxic users cleaning up with Venmo links in their bio.
@mdrockwell I literally had to look up what that was, meanwhile the only payment links I ever recall seeing thrown around on Twitter all the time was OnlyFans. 😂
